A collaborative effort by local North Carolina law enforcement has successfully led to the arrest of two individuals on charges related to drug trafficking. In an operation drawing resources from multiple agencies, 164 grams of methamphetamine and a significant sum of cash were seized during the traffic stop of one Jamie Lee Gray on Highway 70 West.

The Burke County Sheriff's Office's social media post outlined the details last Wednesday, recalling how Morgan Department of Public Safety supported the investigation with a K-9 unit. The coordinated effort didn't end on the highway, a search warrant for Gray's residence in Marion led to further substance discovery and the arrest of Ashley Danielle Sanders.

Law enforcement officials continued their search at Gray’s home, where they discovered additional drugs, including an estimated 47 grams of fentanyl and quantities of methamphetamine and marijuana. The thorough inspection also resulted in the confiscation of an additional $15,701. In the spirit of interagency collaboration, this sting exemplifies the dedicated network of law enforcement striving to dismantle the network of narcotics that snakes through their counties.

The arrests catalyzed by these searches illustrate the high stakes of the ongoing battle against drugs in the counties served by the agencies. Sheriff Hinceman lauded the operation's success and the interagency cooperation, saying, “This is another great example of collaboration among our law enforcement partners to make our counties and communities safer for our citizens.”

The agencies involved in this collaborative effort include the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, McDowell County Sheriff’s Office, Marion Police Department, the Morganton Department of Public Safety, and the NC State Bureau of Investigations. The efficacy of such partnerships plays a critical role in the ongoing mission to protect communities from the ravages of illegal drug trafficking.
