The North Las Vegas Fire Department (NLVFD) continues its commitment to international aid by donating a retired fire truck and additional firefighting equipment to Bomberos Latinos, which will help boost the firefighting capabilities of an underserved community in Cabo San Lucas. The key handover, which took place yesterday, illustrates a blossoming partnership that has been fostering safer communities beyond U.S. borders.
According to a press release from the City of North Las Vegas, this latest collaboration between NLVFD and the nonprofit organization Bomberos Latinos reflects a shared goal: To equip firefighters in Mexico and Latin America with the necessary resources to protect their communities. The donated equipment includes a 1999 Pierce Quantum 65-foot Telesquirt fire truck, and its usefulness, is extended even as it reaches the end of its service life under strict National Fire Protection Association standards.
Bomberos Latinos, with over a quarter-century of experience in this field, will be tasked not just with delivering the truck to the Cabo San Lucas Fire Department but also with providing training on the effective utilization of this newly acquired equipment. The connection between NLVFD and Bomberos Latinos dates back to 2017, marking a consistent effort to address the disparities in firefighting capabilities between regions. Prior donations from NLVFD to Latin American communities include thermal imaging cameras, EMS gear, and medical supplies that were deemed surplus after the Covid pandemic.
