A near-miss on North Las Vegas roads has the NLVPD urging both motorcyclists and drivers to practice safer habits behind the wheel—and handlebars. According to a social media post by NLVPD, a motorcycle's abrupt maneuver into the path of an oncoming vehicle could have spelled disaster; fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident. The close call has prompted authorities to issue a reminder of road safety measures that aim to prevent such accidents from occurring.
Highlighting the imperceptible line between routine and calamity, especially for motorcyclists, the post by NLVPD lays out specific guidelines that riders are encouraged to follow. These include staying visible with bright clothing and headlights, being aware of the likelihood that you might not be seen by drivers, avoiding unpredictable lane changes, and advocating for a defensive rather than aggressive riding style.
As for drivers, the advice was just as pointed, emphasizing the need to double-check for motorcyclists who are less conspicuous than cars, never cut them off or turn across their path, minimize distractions, and allow additional space for motorcycles on the road, given their lack of protective barriers compared to vehicles. The NLVPD’s message is clear and direct: "Every turn, every intersection, every decision matters."
