Law enforcement in Northeast Ohio took a major stand against suspected illegal activities within a local massage parlor, The Dragon Spa. Located at 5975 Andrews Road in Mentor-on-the-Lake, the establishment was raided by officers who confiscated business records, financial documents, and cash amounting to thousands of dollars. The raid was conducted as part of an ongoing effort to combat sex-for-pay operations, which Attorney General Dave Yost and Lake County Sheriff Frank Leonbruno believe to be linked to the larger issue of human trafficking. "No licensed, reputable massage business offers sexual services in exchange for money," Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost stated, affirming the illegitimacy of such services.
The cooperative endeavor between the Northeast Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, and the Mentor-on-the-Lake Police Department led to the execution of a search warrant at the spa. Workers there were identified and offered access to social services. An additional search was carried out at a residence in the area, expanding the scope of the investigation. "If even one victim of human trafficking can be identified and helped, the operation is a success and worth the effort," voiced Lake County Chief Deputy Robert Izzo, underscoring the mission’s focus on aiding victims, according to the Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost.
This calculated strike on The Dragon Spa aligns with a series of similar raids conducted by the task force, which included a statewide anti-human trafficking sting, Operation Next Door, back in September. Four spas in neighboring Lorain and Cuyahoga counties felt the force of law in August as part of these concentrated efforts. The task force leading these missions is spearheaded by the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department, consisting of representatives from various regional law enforcement agencies and support organizations.
As the probe into The Dragon Spa and potential associations continues, authorities encourage anyone with pertinent information to reach out. Individuals can offer tips via calling the task force tip line at (216) 443-6085 or through additional channels designed for reporting human trafficking in Ohio. Advocates for ending human trafficking urge the public to be vigilant and proactive in reporting suspected incidents, providing multiple options, including a phone number (844) END-OHHT, a text code "ENDOHHT" sent to 847411, an app for both Apple and Android devices, or submitting information directly on the Ohio Attorney General’s website.
