Attorney General Gentner Drummond has been honored with induction into the Oklahoma Military Hall of Honor, an acknowledgment given to a select few who have shown exceptional service in the military. The ceremony, which fittingly took place on Veterans Day in Enid, was a stage for recognizing Drummond's contributions to the military and the country. The Oklahoma Military Heritage Foundation went a step further by naming him the Air Force Legacy Veteran of the Year for 2025, a commendation that reflects his significant role in the Air Force and his continuing impact on veterans' issues.
In a display of humility and gratitude, Drummond was quick to redirect the spotlight to his fellow servicemen and women. "Serving our great county in the United States Air Force was the greatest honor of my life," he said. The Attorney General went on to earnestly thank not only those he served with but also the broad community of others who have chosen to don the uniform and stand guard over American freedoms. "I am extremely grateful to the men and women with whom I served, and to the many others who bravely made the decision to serve our country and defend our freedom. I am honored to receive this award and to join Oklahoma’s Military Hall of Honor," Drummond's remark, as reported by the Oklahoma Attorney General's news release.
Drummond's military journey began in the ROTC program at Oklahoma State University, launching him into an eight-year tenure as an Air Force fighter pilot. The rank of captain reflects not just a title, but the responsibilities, decisions, and sacrifices that were part of his duty. A Gulf War veteran, Drummond demonstrated his mettle in the skies, earning recognition not only from his peers but from his country; his military decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross, three Air Medals, and four Aerial Achievement Medals for his contributions during 40 combat missions and accumulating over 200 combat hours, as mentioned on the same news.
Oklahoma Attorney General John O. Drummond was recognized on Veterans Day for his military service. His experiences in the armed forces have influenced his approach to public service and advocacy, reflecting how veterans continue to shape policies and contribute to the community after leaving active duty.
