An officer-involved shooting in Adams County has left one person dead following a pursuit that escalated into a barricade situation on Friday afternoon. According to FOX19, the incident began when the Adams County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from an individual concerned for their safety. This led to a high-speed chase, originating in Peebles and concluding at a residence on the 4100 block of Ohio Brush Creek Road in Manchester, where speeds surpassed 100 mph.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSP) disclosed that the suspect abandoned their car, fled on foot into a home, and was later shot after exiting the property armed. WLWT reports that the property belonged to the Lindner family farm and involved a member of Carl Lindner's family, who was recently served with a protective order amid an evolving domestic situation. This fatality occurred one day after another barricade scenario in Adams County resulted in two deaths, as revealed by FOX19.
The identity of the individual killed has not been released by authorities. Officers from the West Union Police Department, alongside troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, were involved in the lethal confrontation. "The person who came out of the house with a firearm died at the scene," WLWT reported, clarifying that it remains uncertain if the individual discharged their weapon during the encounter.
OSP officials emphasized that there is no current threat to the public, and no officers were grievously injured in the altercation. A minor injury sustained by a trooper was unrelated to the gunfire, according to a report by LOCAL12. The Ohio Attorney General's Office Bureau of Investigation is conducting an inquiry into the incident, as the circumstances surrounding the use of lethal force by law enforcement remain under scrutiny.
