A pre-trial detention hearing has been delayed for Jacori Redding, a 15-year-old accused of fatally shooting a classmate in Orange County. According to ClickOrlando, the judge presiding over the case granted a delay today to allow for further preparation against the state’s motion to keep Redding detained. The teen faces manslaughter charges as an adult for the death of 16-year-old Pinien Dalmacy.
The victim was shot at Vogt-Mellon Park, located near their high school, following a confrontation that began with a seemingly trivial bump in the hallway. Charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle at the time of the incident, Redding was discovered by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in the school cafeteria, with a firearm stored inside his backpack. The incident has prompted an examination of Redding's past disciplinary record, involving 39 incidents within the Orange County Public Schools system.
In addition to his history of disciplinary issues, WESH reported that prosecutorial documents reveal alarming details, suggesting Redding had harbored intentions of violence, evident from a text message where he discussed a plan to deceive someone into thinking they were meeting for a fight, only to "pop" them. This text comes from months before the shooting, which aligns eerily with the events leading to Dalmacy’s death.
While the journey toward justice is paused, the hearing for Redding’s pre-trial detention, having hired a new lawyer just previously, is now set for November 12.
