In an unsettling turn of events near Orange County's Oak Ridge High School, a teenage dispute escalated to a fatal shooting. Jacori Redding, a 15-year-old student, will be tried as an adult in the death of his 16-year-old classmate, Pinien Dalmacy. The decision announced by the state attorney's office follows last month's altercation between the two teens, which tragically ended on the basketball courts of Vogt-Meloon Park, as reported by ClickOrlando.
Redding faces serious charges, including manslaughter, possession of a firearm on school property, and possession of a firearm by a minor. After an initial bump in the school's hallways, which Redding apparently declined to apologize for, the two agreed to meet after school to "fight it out," as revealed by the Orange County Sheriff's Office. Instead of an exchange of blows, a gun was drawn, and Redding allegedly shot Dalmacy, who later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.
The incident occurred on October 9 and prompted a lockdown at the nearby school, where Redding returned post-shooting. According to a statement detailed by FOX 35 Orlando, Orange County Sheriff John Mina highlighted the gravity of the confrontation that led to the catastrophe, stating, "I'm really angry that something as small as bumping into someone in the halls of a high school, something that we've all done, has now turned into a deadly shooting of a 16-year-old."
