Oregon is awarding nearly $11.5 million in grants to reduce diesel emissions and support infrastructure improvements. The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) confirmed the funding, which will help transition medium- and heavy-duty vehicles to cleaner technology and expand related infrastructure.
The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality reviewed 60 applications and selected 43 projects for funding. The grants include the Volkswagen Diesel Emissions Mitigation Trust Diesel Emissions Mitigation Grants Program, the CERTA-supported Oregon DEQ Clean Trucks Grant Program, and the Oregon Zero-Emission Fueling Infrastructure Grants.
Examples of funded projects include $650,000 for Crook County Library in Prineville to convert its diesel bookmobile to electric and $130,000 for Corvallis Disposal Co. to replace a diesel garbage truck with an electric model. The projects are expected to reduce over 25 tons of nitrogen oxides and fine particulate matter.
Recipients can track and verify emissions reductions through DEQ’s Diesel Emissions Identification Program. Federal Diesel Emissions Reduction Act Grants are still under review.
