Foster City's culinary map is getting a refresh with the entrance of Osaka Marketplace, setting its grand opening on December 12. As reported by KRON4, the Japanese supermarket is scheduled to unveil its new outpost with a ceremony at the Edgewater Place Shopping Center, inviting the public to celebrations commencing from 9 AM. In what could be perceived as a cultural infusion, the grand opening will feature a taiko drum performance, a Dassai Sake ceremony, and a ribbon cutting. The store, which occupies the former Lucky grocery store space, aims to bring a slice of Japan to the Bay Area.
The first 100 shoppers on each of the first three days stand to receive free gourmet goodie bags, alongside promotions and specials typical of a business establishment ramping up interest. Osaka Marketplace, which debuted in Fremont in 2021, is touted as the first Japanese supermarket of its kind in the East Bay. It's a part of the Bay Area-founded chain's ambitious expansion strategy, which, according to the company, includes opening 12 more locations over the coming decade. This expansion consists of a 42,000-square-foot store in Pleasant Hill, slated for a summer 2026 opening, which will occupy a former Orchard Supply Hardware location, as detailed by the San Francisco Chronicle.
Director of Osaka Marketplace, Kazuhiro Takeda, in an assertive tone, expressed that their goal "has always been to make shopping at Osaka Marketplace feel like a small trip to Japan." He shared his brand's vision with KRON4, emphasizing their commitment to helping customers access the finest ingredients while nurturing the discovery of new products and flavors.
