Bayou Teche is in for some sprucing up, as the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) kicks off a bridge preservation project to the tune of over $1.5 million. The infrastructure uplift will attend to the Centerville and Bridge Road (Jennings) Bridges in St. Mary Parish, a necessary move to ensure the longevity of these critical crossings.
Bridge work will take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting. Motorists should expect temporary bridge closures during construction. According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), press releases are issued to provide updates on schedule changes and traffic adjustments.
The bridge refurbishment will include structural repairs, mechanical work, and electrical maintenance, as well as the installation of precast concrete piles. The project is scheduled for completion by summer 2026. It is part of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development’s Off-System Bridge Program, which aims to replace or upgrade aging bridges cost-effectively.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is advising motorists in St. Mary Parish to exercise caution and stay alert for detour signs during ongoing construction. The department has also provided resources to assist drivers navigating the affected routes.
Motorists traveling along Bayou Teche should expect minor delays and are advised to allow extra time for their commute during ongoing road construction. The work is intended to improve travel safety in the area.
