On Thanksgiving morning, over 8,000 people from across six countries and 38 states converged in Pittsburgh to partake in a tradition that merges physical well-being with the spirit of giving at the YMCA Pittsburgh Turkey Trot. In its 35th year, the event, which includes a range of races such as a 5-mile, 5K, 1-Mile Family Fun Run, and the Double Gobble challenge, has shown no signs of slowing down. Organized by the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh and sponsored by UPMC Health Plan, the proceeds from the race bolster YMCA food pantry programs and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, according to WPXI.

While participants warmed up in front of PNC Park, donning whimsical Thanksgiving attire that showcased a lighter side, the true purpose of the event stayed clear—addressing food insecurity within the community.

Not to be outdone, Greensburg hosted its 34th annual Turkey Trot, with the local community showing their support by lacing up for the benefit of multiple nonprofits. Runners gathered, and Pittsburgh's Action News 4 anchor, Kelly Sasso, initiated the Thanksgiving day event with the blast of an air horn. Greensburg firefighter Carolyn Campbell emphasized the close-knit nature of their community, stating in an interview to WTAE, "We serve the city. We have six stations, so we really are here for the community. We're showing up for them. Let them know that we're here for them. We got their back, we're here to protect them."
