Students from Rhea Elementary School in Paris, Tennessee, have taken a creative approach to learning about winter weather safety by painting a snowplow for the Tennessee Department of Transportation's (TDOT) Region 4 Paint the Plow project. According to a recent article on the TDOT website, the program not only educates students about the importance of keeping Tennessee roads safe during the snowy months but also allows them to express their artistic talents on a unique canvas.
The participating young artists at Rhea Elementary designed their plow with a hopeful message aptly named "Clear the Way for a Brighter Day." It's adorned with a beaming sun, a spectrum of rays, and vibrant hand-painted words that coat its blade. Before these painted plows tackle the wintery roads, they'll be featured in local events and parades to display the children's handiwork, as reported by the TDOT.
TDOT takes the opportunity to remind motorists of the necessary precautions during colder months. Drivers should be fully aware of weather conditions before departure and refrain from distractions such as using mobile devices while driving. Furthermore, the Move Over Law, passed in 2006, aims to ensure the safety of TDOT crews, with violators facing the potential of jail time and hefty fines.
For up-to-date travel information, TDOT encourages the use of the SmartWay Map, which offers current construction activity updates. Travelers seeking on-the-go information can also dial 511 for statewide traffic updates, ensuring they are informed before and during their travel, when conditions may be uncertain.
