A tragic collision on Highway 83 near Franktown resulted in five fatalities, with the suspect behind the wheel of the stolen car reportedly on state parole. According to KRDO, the crash occurred when a stolen Toyota Matrix, driven by parolee Walter Huling III, veered out of control and hit a Ford sedan head-on; among the deceased were 35-year-old Alvin Corado and three children: MaKenlee Corado, 12, Toretto Corado, 8, and Jase Green, 12.
Details surrounding the incident and Huling's background have emerged, revealing a history of more than a dozen arrests over a decade before the fatal crash and the most recent parole stemming from a sentence for assault in Denver in 2019, as Denver7 confirmed with multiple sources close to the investigation.
The suspect, recently in violation of a restraining order in 2024, had his prior criminal activities, including the assault of three individuals and a responding police officer in Denver, leading to his prison term followed by state-mandated parole; 9News highlighted the track record of not only Huling but also a broader pattern of re-offending by other individuals on parole connected to at least 19 deaths since September 2023 in Colorado.
While Huling died in the crash, the broader implications of the parole system's role in the pattern of re-offending raised by these incidents have caught the attention of both the public and officials; Scott Robinson, a criminal defense attorney and legal analyst for 9NEWS indicated that "people on parole have been accused of multiple homicides and several deaths caused by reckless driving," pointing to the historic repetitiveness of such tragic events, suggesting a systemic issue within the transition from incarceration to community integration, as reported by 9News.
