A devastating fire swept through an auto garage in Pittsburgh's Sheraden neighborhood, leaving one man unaccounted for and prompting a series of emergency responses. According to WPXI, the blaze ignited yesterday in the 700 block of Hillsboro Street, where the flames quickly escalated to a two-alarm fire. The Public Safety officials reported police as first responders on-site, witnessing the flames aggressively consuming the second story of the building.
The structural integrity of the garage suffered considerably during the fire, resulting in a partial collapse that unfortunately brought the roof and third floor crashing onto the second, which the firefighters and police confirmed.
WTAE detailed that drones were deployed in an effort to locate the man believed to have been inside during the fire, but as of 11 a.m. yesterday, they had not found anyone. The ongoing search and recovery operation is expected to commence by 1 p.m. today following precautions to secure the site, a necessary preamble to the demolition process.
Authorities are yet to confirm the cause of the fire, maintaining it under active investigation.
