Unexpected drama unfolded just south of Las Vegas yesterday afternoon when a single-engine plane was forced to land on Interstate 15. The aircraft, a four-seater carrying an instructor and student pilot, experienced engine failure and touched down on the northbound lanes near Jean. Nevada State Troopers swiftly intervened, redirecting traffic away from the interstate and onto Las Vegas Boulevard to ensure safety.
According to FOX5 Vegas, the incident occurred just before 3 p.m., and there were no reported injuries either in the plane or on the ground. The roadway was blocked entirely as officials dispatched to manage the scene and investigate the mechanical issues that prompted the aviation scare. All northbound lanes were closed at mile marker 12, with visible disruptions on a usually bustling interstate artery.
Further details provided by 8 News Now stated the plane landed after mile marker 13 and that all traffic was diverted to SR-604. The closure and diversions were managed by RTC Southern Nevada, which monitored the situation closely until I-15 was reopened to traffic hours later.
The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified of the situation and is expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the emergency landing. The aircraft was removed from the interstate around 4:30 p.m., and traffic began flowing smoothly by around 5:30 p.m.
