In Plymouth, historical commemoration and solemn remembrance are set to intersect, as the town prepares for the annual Pilgrim's Progress reenactment and the National Day of Mourning demonstrations. Plymouth Police Department, via Facebook page, forewarns residents and visitors of scheduled events and associated traffic advisories.
The day starts with the Pilgrim’s Progress march at 10:00 AM from the Mayflower Society House, following a route through North Street, Water Street, Leyden Street, Burial Hill, School Street, Court Street, and back to North Street. No roads will be closed for this march. Later, those observing the National Day of Mourning will gather at Cole’s Hill at noon for a rally lasting until about 1:30 PM, followed by a march ending at Plymouth Rock, according to the Plymouth Police Department.
For the National Day of Mourning, parking will be prohibited on Main Street and Court Street from Leyden Street to Brewster Street from 6 AM to 4 PM. The march will start around 1:30 PM, following Carver Street, Leyden Street, Main Street, Brewster Street, and Water Street to Plymouth Rock. Authorities ask everyone to follow these temporary rules for safety and respect during the events, as detailed by the Plymouth Police Department. Some roads in Plymouth will close around 1:30 PM for a march, including Court Street at Russell Street, Water Street at Chilton, Brewster Street, and Summer Street at Market. Closures will last until 4 PM or until it’s safe to reopen.
