Community and law enforcement officials are today mourning the loss of Porum Police Officer Richard Phillips after he was killed in a vehicle accident on Thursday morning in Pittsburg County. Representative Tim Turner, R-Kinta, publicly expressed sorrow over the accident that occurred this past week which led to the death of the police officer, who was also a former marine and father. Turner discussed the life and service of the officer in a heartfelt statement released after the incident.
"I was deeply saddened to learn of the death of Patrol Officer Richard Phillips, who was tragically killed Thursday morning in a vehicle accident in Pittsburg County," Turner said according to the Oklahoma House of Representatives official site. The representative went on to highly praise Officer Phillips for his dedication to public service and described him as "the kind of officer any department would be proud to have," noting his hard work, compassion, and commitment.
Officer Phillips' record as a Marine veteran was also highlighted by Turner, emphasizing the late officer's history of service to both his community and country. Reflecting on his life, it becomes apparent that Officer Phillips' career was one distinguished by honor and continuation of service after transitioning from military to law enforcement roles.
The sentiment of loss and respect was extended to Officer Phillips' family. "My family extends our heartfelt prayers to Officer Phillips’ children, his loved ones and his brothers and sisters in law enforcement as they mourn this tremendous loss," Turner declared.
