A propane truck rollover incident in Dodge County has led to road closures and the evacuation of nearby residents just south of Waupun, reports indicate. The Dodge County Sheriff's Office confirmed receiving a 911 call around 8 a.m. on Thursday, detailing the single-vehicle crash on Milligan Road in the Town of Chester.
A 71-year-old man from Fond du Lac was identified as the driver of the westbound propane delivery truck, which, according to FOX6Now and FDL Reporter, veered off the road, hit a driveway, and subsequently overturned, resulting in a propane leak. This hazardous material's escape prompted evacuations for the sake of public safety.
The driver incurred injuries in the crash, but they are not believed to be life-threatening. As per the sheriff's office, he was extricated from the vehicle and taken to a local hospital. Authorities, including the Dodge County Hazardous Materials Team, were quickly on the scene, working to contain the leak and mitigate any further risks to the community. "Propane was leaking, and homes in the immediate area were evacuated," said the office as reported by FOX6Now.
The aftermath of the rollover has seen a continued closure of Milligan Road, spanning from County Highway M to State Highway 26, as authorities address the situation. The Dodge County HAZMAT team's efforts were ongoing well into the evening to secure the area. The road's closure, aimed at safeguarding both the responders and the public from the inherent dangers of a propane leak, is a stark reminder of the delicate balance between our reliance on such resources and the ever-present risk that accompanies their transport and delivery.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are still being conducted by the sheriff's office. Vital details of the incident, including the circumstances that led the truck to veer off-road, remain as of yet unclear. Nevertheless, the collective action by first responders and emergency services in Dodge County underscores a commitment to public safety in the face of unforeseen dangers, as life resumed, shielded fragilely by their vigilance and response.
