In an effort to address escalating concerns over food security within the Raleigh community, Raleigh Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources is teaming up with Wake County Cooperative Extension to convert local community centers into food collection sites. These centers are now inviting residents to donate essential items, which will then be distributed to established Wake County food pantries, as indicated in a recent report by the city.
Donations are being accepted from the present till December 19, every day during the operational hours of the participating centers. The public can contribute non-perishable food items, personal care products, and other fundamental necessities. A full listing of desired donations is available for public viewing on the City of Raleigh website.
The Raleigh initiative has designated multiple locations for drop-offs throughout the city. Notable centers include the Abbotts Creek Community Center on Durant Rd., the Barwell Road Community Center, and the Brier Creek Community Center on Globe Rd., among others. In total, fifteen community centers are participating in the food drive with the collective aim of reaching residents in diverse locales.
