Yesterday's organized retail theft at a Lens Crafters store in Novato ended with four arrests after a rapid response by local law enforcement. According to a post on the Novato Police Department's social media page, Novato Police Officers were dispatched to the scene at the Vintage Oaks shopping center shortly after 3 pm. They were in pursuit of a black Dodge Charger, noted for its missing license plates, which was reportedly used as the getaway vehicle.
The chase culminated thanks to the sharp eyes of a California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer who noticed the suspect vehicle traveling south on Highway 101. Within about 20 minutes of the initial alert, a traffic stop near Freitas Parkway led to the discovery of 90 pairs of stolen glasses and eyewear products valued at more than $33,000. "We are grateful to our wonderful partners from Marin CHP for their assistance with locating and safely detaining these suspects," the Novato Police expressed in their statement.
The CHP's role was critical in this operation, with officers intercepting the suspects approximately 25 minutes after the theft alert was issued by the Novato Police. As detailed in a Hoodline report, the CHP, having been alerted by Novato Police, spotted the vehicle while attending a nearby crash.
"The relationship between a CHP and its neighboring allied agencies is a crucial element in providing the highest level of service to the community," according to the CHP Marin social media update. The suspects have been taken into custody, with the adults booked at Marin County Jail and the minor at Marin Juvenile Hall. Armani Delrosario, one of the suspects and father to a one-year-old girl found in the vehicle, faces additional charges for child endangerment. The child was safely released to her grandmother.
