The Reno Fire Department and its partner SWCA Environmental Consultants have opened the floor for public input on the upcoming 2026 City of Reno Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP), according to an announcement made on their website. This plan aims squarely at bolstering our defense against the scourge of wildfires and is designed to shore up community safety and resilience. Community members are encouraged to wade through the draft and offer their reflections by December 3.
There's a chance for public discourse via a webinar slated for November 19, an opportunity for residents to directly express their thoughts to both RFD and SWCA representatives. According to the RFD's announcement, "Feedback from our residents is key to creating a plan that meets our community's needs and provides the most effective fire safety measures for those living in the wildland-urban interface." Offering Spanish assistance, the webinar is accessible with a simple registration on Zoom.
For those whose schedules clash with the webinar, a feedback form is your avenue for input. These forms, along with condensed versions of the CWPP draft, are available in both English and Spanish, ready to be filled out and submitted digitally. Or, for those preferring the weight of paper in hand, physical forms await at City Hall, ready to receive feedback in both languages.
For more granular details or burning questions that might not wait for a public forum, SWCA Project Manager Jayden Peterson is on standby at [email protected]. To peruse the draft CWPP or register for the public webinar, residents can visit Reno Fire Department's CWPP main page.
