The City of Sacramento's efforts to address the homelessness issue have been elaborated in their latest weekly progress report by the City’s Incident Management Team (IMT). The report, chronicling the period of November 10-16, indicates a substantial number of calls and actions related to unsheltered individuals. Specifically, the City received 544 calls to its 311 customer service, which resulted in the opening of 2,096 "cases" — a tally that exceeds the call volume due to the fact that multiple cases can stem from a single call, as noted by the Sacramento City Express.
During the week, an encouraging 2,466 cases were closed, a reflection of issues remedied or compliance achieved. Meanwhile, the Department of Community Response's outreach staff managed to enroll 74 people into databases that connect them with local shelters and other critical resources. In terms of housing, 17 individuals found placement at either the City’s Roseville Road campus or the Outreach and Engagement Center (OEC), as of the report published on November 18. That said, there remained an issue with capacity—zero Pallet homes and zero trailers were available at the Roseville Road campus and only two spaces at the OEC, with an average of 13 openings at City-funded shelters.
Addressing the tangible impact of homelessness on the city landscape, Sacramento's team carried out waste removal efforts that culminated in the disposal of 50,140 pounds of trash. The City’s dedication to transparency in its management of the homelessness crisis is evident through a data dashboard, which the public can use to track weekly progress of the IMT since September 2023 along with cumulative figures for outreach, compliance, and cleanup.
