As the winter chill sets in, Saint Louis County has partnered with The Salvation Army to provide a safety net for those facing the harshest of elements. According to a recent announcement on the St. Louis County website, a Winter Warming Emergency Shelter opened on November 10 and will continue to operate through March 6, 2026. This initiative is aimed at offering a respite from the cold with accommodations including shelter, meals, and supportive services for up to 32 individuals in need.
With the facility located at The Salvation Army on Page Ave., the community's most vulnerable can now find solace complete with 24/7 staff support and essential amenities. Hot meals will be provided three times daily, and necessities such as laundry facilities, case management, hygiene and shower access, telephone access, and tools for life skills advancement and employment assistance will be readily available. The shelter's policy to stay open regardless of the weather conditions serves to unequivocally assure continuous aid.
Moreover, individuals seeking assistance during daytime hours can visit the Loaves and Fishes Resource Center. This daytime hub operates Monday through Friday, offering a limited set of services including emergency shelter referrals and case management assessments, as well as laundry, meals, and telephone access. The center plays an invaluable role for those who may find themselves on the precipice of destitution.
For anyone in need of guidance or program entry, Saint Louis County has streamlined the process to a simple phone call to 211.
