On November 16th, officers conducted a welfare check in South San Jose following reports of a child abuse incident that had taken place a few days earlier. The department's Real Time Intelligence Center, using Automated License Plate Reader cameras, revealed that a male adult had used a plastic bag to strangle a toddler and had also assaulted a young boy. Although the suspect had fled the scene, AIR3 was able to spot his vehicle in North San Jose on the subsequent day. A high-risk vehicle stop was performed, and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
The individual, whose name has not been released, has been charged with child abuse and neglect. The San Jose Police Department emphasized the importance of AIR3 in the resolution of the case, stating, "We are grateful that our eyes in the sky helped locate this violent suspect who thought it was okay to abuse two young children." With the suspect now behind bars, the children are reported to be safe.
Following the arrest, the suspect was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail. Details regarding the identities of the children and the specific nature of their injuries have not been disclosed by authorities. The incident highlights the ongoing issue of child abuse in our communities, and also the crucial role of advanced surveillance technology in law enforcement's efforts to protect vulnerable populations.
