San Mateo police made an arrest last week after a routine traffic stop unearthed a cache of illegal firearms and narcotics. On Friday, a vehicle with illegal tint and an expired registration was stopped at the intersection of Delaware St. and 25th Avenue, revealing much more than traffic infractions.
Upon contacting the driver, 18-year-old Belmont resident Carron Patterson, officers noted an open bottle of tequila and were hit by the strong smell of marijuana. During a probable cause search, revealed inside a backpack, a Glock pistol equipped with a multi-burst trigger, an extended magazine, and ammunition chambered was discovered. Further investigation uncovered scales and packaging materials linked to drug sales, as well as psilocybin mushrooms, 17 oxycodone pills, and marijuana, according to a social media post from the San Mateo Police Department.
The arrest of Patterson has led to multiple serious charges including transforming a standard firearm into a machinegun and possession of narcotics for sale. The list of charges also encompasses carrying a concealed and loaded firearm in specific pubic settings, possession of an unconventional pistol, and other firearms-related offenses. Patterson was booked into the San Mateo County Jail following these discoveries.
