
In the ongoing battle against urban theft, the San Rafael Police Department is ramping up efforts following a sting operation that led to an arrest for bicycle theft. As reported by the San Rafael Police Department's social media post, officers laid a trap for would-be thieves using a bicycle bait on Lincoln Avenue in Downtown San Rafael. The suspect, identified as Melvin Enrique Delgado, a local resident, didn't waste any time snatching up the unlocked bike.

Within a mere 10 minutes of setting the stage, Delgado was caught in the act, according to the SRPD, leading to his immediate apprehension and booking into the Marin County Jail. The bike operation serves as a proactive measure aimed at reducing the frequency of bicycle theft in the area.
While the San Rafael Police Department remains steadfast in its commitment to reducing theft, they are also emphasizing the importance of theft prevention among residents. Key recommendations include using high-quality locks such as U-locks, securing both wheels and the frame, removing easily stolen parts, and parking in well-lit and visible locations. Every cyclist is encouraged to record their bike's serial number and keep a photo for reference.
