The City of Sarasota has rolled up its sleeves to begin recovery work at two popular coastal retreats, Bayfront Park and Whitaker Gateway Park. The much-needed facelift is to repair the scars left by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Sarasota city officials have shared that construction crews got to work at Whitaker Gateway Park last Thursday, tackling the seaside safeguards with restoration to the seawall, sidewalks and laying fresh sod. According to officials, Bayfront Park followed suit a few days later on Tuesday with similar upgrades plus shoreline restoration and fixing up street signs for good measure.
While the day-to-day park goer may not fully appreciate the bureaucratic ballet danced behind the scenes, city spokespersons have given assurance that more tangible signs of progress will begin to really visibly show throughout 2026.
