Thanksgiving is upon us, and that means City Hall will be taking a brief hiatus to celebrate the holiday. In a statement, officials have confirmed that city administrative offices in Sarasota will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 27, and Friday, Nov. 28, in accordance with the Thanksgiving break, giving employees a much-needed respite to spend time with family and friends.
Residents should note that this will affect more than just the opening hours of government buildings; the holiday's impact extends to waste management services. There will be no garbage, recycling, or yard waste pickup on Thanksgiving Day, and while the absence of these services on the holiday itself may cause mild inconveniences, the city has a plan to resume and adjust the pickup schedule promptly, pickups will shift by a day for the remainder of the week, with Thursday’s collections happening on Friday and Friday’s being pushed to Saturday, ensuring that piles of waste won't linger too long on our sidewalks.
If you're planning on using the Bay Runner to get around during the holiday, you're in luck. The service will maintain its regular operating hours, running from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 27, and it will extend an hour later on Friday, Nov. 28, with services available until 11 p.m., offering a dependable option for residents and visitors navigating the city during the Thanksgiving holidays, as reported by the City of Sarasota's announcement.
However, for those looking to burn off that Thanksgiving dinner with some recreational activities, they'll need to rethink their plans, the city's recreational facilities will be experiencing a pause in their operations – Arlington Park and Aquatic Complex, Lido Pool, Payne Park Tennis Center and Robert L. Taylor Community Complex will all shut their doors on Nov. 27-28. The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall's Box Office will also be observing the holiday, closing on Nov. 27 but will bounce back the following day for those eager to secure their tickets to upcoming shows and events.
