
The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office celebrated the promotions of two of its staff members in a recent ceremony held yesterday, as reported by the agency's latest news release. Amanda Garris, previously a Booking Technician II, has been elevated to the role of Classification Supervisor within the Corrections Services Bureau. Rising through the ranks since her start at the agency in 2017, Garris has a notable record, having been nominated for employee of the month in the Courts and Corrections Division four times, and clinching the title in April 2022.
Joining Garris in career advancement, Alexander "Xander" Lowen was promoted from Communications Operator II to Emergency Operations Supervisor, a role in the Emergency Operations Bureau. Lowen's journey with the SCSO began in 2019,, and he has since taken on responsibilities as a Communications Training Officer, as well as joining the Critical Incident Stress Management Team. His capabilities were acknowledged when he was named the Administrative Division Employee of the Month in April 2021.
Both Garris and Lowen have academic backgrounds that complement their roles. According to information from the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, Garris holds a Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies from Florida Gulf Coast University, while Lowen has a Bachelor of Science in Public Safety and Emergency Management from the State College of Florida.
Expressing pride and optimism for the department's future, Sheriff Kurt A. Hoffman remarked about the promotions, "We have so much to celebrate at SCSO." He added, "Seeing these members excel at what they do and advance to the next level is exciting for the future of our agency," as mentioned on the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office website.
