In an unconventional home invasion, a Scottsdale resident was startled to discover a bobcat and its kitten taking up residence in their home. The feline duo wasn't simply passing through — they appeared to have moved into the attic, venturing as far as the home's bathroom. According to 12 News, the homeowner initially found just the baby bobcat after investigating noises in the attic. Although initially elusive, the mother was later discovered peering out of the shower, leading to their eventual capture and release by Arizona Game and Fish Department officers.
These close encounters with urban wildlife come on the heels of a separate, yet equally intriguing, sighting where two other bobcats were observed lounging on the roof of a residence near the McDowell Mountains. This unusual behavior, captured in images by Shawna Hankins, who resides in proximity to the mountain base, demonstrated how these wild creatures can adapt to suburban spaces. Hankins told FOX 10 Phoenix, “I've never seen wildlife behave this way,” as she watched them remain atop the roof for several hours, bringing a touch of the wild to the rooftops of Scottsdale.
The issue seems to be growing in the area, with another Scottsdale resident earlier in the year finding a bobcat snuggled in a doggie bed inside their home. Game and Fish officials suggested that the wild cats may have been taking advantage of a damaged roof or an unlocked doggie door to enter homes. Officials encourage anyone encountering a bobcat in their home to contact AZGFD at 623-236-7201. For those seeking guidance on these unexpected wild encounters, information from the Arizona Game & Fish Department regarding bobcats is available online, as per FOX 10 Phoenix.
