Seattle is putting its green foot forward once again. Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) and WM, formerly known as Waste Management, have just announced this year's winners of their ReThink Waste Grants. The program, which is now in its seventh year, is all about backing community projects that aim to cut down on waste, increase recycling, and push for sustainability in the city. This time around, a cool $10,000 is being spread across five local organizations.

Andrew Lee, the person in charge at Seattle Public Utilities, is proud of what the city's residents and organizations are managing to pull off. "Seattle’s residents and organizations continue to demonstrate that local action can drive big change," he said in a statement released by the Seattle Public Utilities. The grants are designed to quickly empower local change-makers to turn old junk into new opportunities and support Seattle's zero waste goals.

According to Seattle Public Utilities, the organizations picked for the 2025 ReThink Waste Grants were selected from a tough crowd of Seattle businesses and nonprofits in WM’s service area. These aren't just ideas on paper; they are clear, actionable plans ready to be put into practice to seriously slash waste or even better, turn it into something useful.

The grant recipients this year are as diverse as they are innovative, though SPU and WM haven't named names just yet. As Jason Rose put it, "Each year we see projects that inspire us with their creativity, practical impact and commitment to reducing waste in our community." If you're curious about who snagged the funding and the fresh sustainability projects coming to a neighborhood near you, stay tuned to SPU and WM's announcements.
