As Milwaukee reels from a harrowing encounter that claimed the life of a high school student, authorities have disclosed the apprehension of a second 17-year-old in connection with the armed robbery and fatal shooting of 18-year-old Na'Mar Hicks, who was gunned down near Assata High School. The teen's arrest came on Wednesday, and criminal charges are now being funneled to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office, in a case that has swiftly garnered intense local scrutiny, according to WISN 12 News.
Initial charges were thrust upon Jaqwone Robinson, another 17-year-old who now faces first-degree reckless homicide as a party to a crime, after the tragic events unfolded mere blocks from where Hicks sought his education, and it's suggested by the Milwaukee Police Department that no additional perpetrators are currently pursued, TMJ4 reported. Community members remain heartbroken by the swift and brutal loss of Hicks, who simply endeavored to transition from school to work, only to have his journey through life savagely cut short.
Milwaukee Public Schools indicated a school day truncated by early dismissal on that fateful last Friday, creating an environment wherein Hicks, leaving school premises, found himself ensnared in fatal circumstances, FOX6 News reported. Surveillance video retrieved by the police captures a grim tableau: two figures clad in black hoodies closing in on Hicks at a bus stop, a struggle that spilled over into the street, and the final, tragic moments of confrontation.
After the incident, Na’Mar Hicks managed to make his way back to the school to seek help, but despite the quick response of emergency personnel, he later died at the hospital. According to investigators, the events were reconstructed through surveillance footage and witness accounts. Robinson, who also suffered a gunshot wound, told police that another individual involved in the confrontation fired the fatal shot. He now faces charges that could carry a sentence of up to 60 years if he is convicted.
