Sevier County is calling on residents and stakeholders to engage in shaping a strategy against wildfires. The partnership, including the cities of Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, the Town of Pittman Center, the Tennessee Department of Agriculture Division of Forestry, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, aims to draft a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP), targeting the mitigation of wildfire risks and enhancing community preparedness. According to Sevier County's announcement, two public meetings have been scheduled to discuss and collect community feedback on the initiative.

These sessions are key opportunities for locals to learn about the CWPP's progress and to contribute their experiences and suggestions; the gatherings will unfold at the American Legion Building in Gatlinburg on Thursday, November 13 from 6:30-8:30 PM, and at the Sevierville Civic Center on Thursday, November 20, also from 6:30-8:30 PM, the purpose of these meetings is to present proposed wildfire mitigation strategies, present draft action items for review and, integrate public response into the plan's decision-making process. "Feedback from residents and stakeholders will play a critical role in ensuring the CWPP reflects local needs and values," mentions the Sevier County website.

Strategically, the Sevier County CWPP falls in line with the National Cohesive Wildland Fire Management Strategy, prioritizing the restoration and maintenance of fire-resilient landscapes, the development of fire-adapted communities, and the elevation of wildfire response efficacy. Started in 2024, a state grant funded a multi-agency collaboration aimed at formulating a comprehensive wildfire mitigation strategy that encompasses the whole of Sevier County, advising the operations is a steering committee represented by key local agencies and partners.

Looking ahead, once the CWPP is ratified in 2026, it is expected to function as a guide for managing wildfire prevention and assigning resources, prioritizing projects, and aligning the endeavors of local, state, and federal agencies, all of which are crucial steps toward reinforcing the county's resilience to wildfire incidents. The full plan outline and implementation schedule will be accessible to the public upon finalization of the CWPP.
