Silver Alert Scramble In Felton As Crews Hunt For Missing 73-Year-OldCHP

Search crews and deputies are combing the Felton area after 73-year-old Jeanne Burke vanished Tuesday afternoon, triggering a regional Silver Alert and an urgent plea for the public’s help.

Burke was last seen near Eaton Drive and Felton Quarry Road. Deputies say she was on foot and wearing a red and black plaid jacket, black pants and mismatched sandals. She is considered at risk because of medical concerns.

The California Highway Patrol announced the Silver Alert on X, saying Burke is believed to be traveling on foot and that the alert now covers Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, San Mateo and Monterey counties, according to CHP Alerts. The alert lists her height at about 5 feet 2 inches and her weight at about 108 pounds.

Deputies told reporters Burke was spotted Tuesday afternoon near Felton Quarry walking toward Empire Grade Road, and she was later placed in the Moore Ranch Road area. Authorities and local media describe her as having long gray hair, blue eyes and glasses. Anyone who may have seen her or has information about where she might be is urged to contact Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s dispatch at 831-471-1121, according to KSBW.

Where She Was Last Seen

The Silver Alert was activated by the CHP on behalf of the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office. The statewide Silver Alert plan is used when an older adult or cognitively impaired person goes missing and is considered in danger, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Deputies say they are canvassing the area around Felton Quarry, nearby roadways and the Moore Ranch Road area, checking tips from residents and any reported sightings.

How You Can Help

If you see Burke, law enforcement says to call 9-1-1 immediately or contact Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s dispatch at 831-471-1121, the sheriff’s office told KSBW.

Investigators are also asking anyone with dash-cam or cellphone video from the Felton Quarry or Moore Ranch Road areas to share it with authorities, in case it captured Burke or helps trace where she might have gone.

Search teams and volunteers remain active in the Felton area as deputies chase down leads. This story will be updated if agencies release more information.
