Six individuals have been hospitalized following an evacuation due to the smell of gas at a Murrysville Chipotle on Tuesday afternoon. According to WPXI, emergency responders arrived at the scene on the 4800 block of William Penn Highway around 1:50 p.m., where the odor was potent enough to prompt a swift medical evaluation for the restaurant's staff.
After arriving, firefighters advised six individuals, including five workers and a manager from the establishment, to seek hospital care to ensure their safety. The neighboring business has indicated that this incident is part of an ongoing concern, reporting continuous gas issues before this event.
The impacted location is part of Walnut Hollow, a shopping plaza on Route 22, and the evacuation extended beyond the Chipotle to other businesses within the area. WTAE reported that Peoples Gas, alongside emergency personnel, responded to the 911 call promptly, yet did not reveal immediate findings about the cause. The plaza's businesses were allowed to commence operations again shortly before 4 p.m. the same day.
This story will be continuously updated with the latest revelations as they are made available by the responding officials and the gas company.
