The City of St. Augustine is preparing for its annual Nights of Lights display, implementing several operational changes. Officials are increasing public safety measures, adjusting traffic management, and adding additional amenities, including portable restrooms, to accommodate visitors.

Following large crowds last year, city officials sought additional resources to improve event management and received $851,000 from the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners, according to the City of St. Augustine. These funds, sourced from tourism tax revenue, will be used to enhance the organization of the Nights of Lights display. Visitors parking at the Historic Downtown Parking Facility will be charged $40 per entry, as part of efforts to encourage use of the free park-and-ride options.

Seventy portable restrooms will be available for visitors, with their locations accessible through the event’s mobile app. Developed in collaboration with the St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra & The Beaches Visitors & Convention Bureau, the app also provides essential information and guidance to help attendees navigate the Nights of Lights display.

During the Nights of Lights display, police, sheriff’s offices, and public safety assistants will be stationed at key intersections to manage pedestrian traffic. Pedestrian barricades will be used to close certain streets during peak times and daily from December 19 to January 1, 2026. Street parking will be restricted during these periods to maintain smooth vehicle flow.

The city will use a rideshare geo-fence to manage Uber and Lyft traffic. Residents and visitors should also be aware of seasonal permit parking restrictions. Additionally, Verizon will provide a temporary network boost to help maintain mobile service during the event.
