
A man has been apprehended in connection with a deadly shooting at a Jacksonville fast-food establishment over the weekend. According to a social media statement by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, 28-year-old Dawud Burritt faces numerous charges, including murder.
Officials say the incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. Saturday night on Blanding Boulevard near Collins Road. Arriving at the scene, officers found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Sadly, one of them, identified as 18-year-old Matthew Jackson, succumbed to his injuries. The other victim, who rushed to the hospital, is expected to make a recovery.
Following an evidence review and interviews by the Homicide detectives, Burritt was identified as the alleged shooter. The swift police action led to his arrest the following morning. He is currently detained in the Duval County jail. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office extended its condolences to Jackson's family and expressed hopes for the second victim's quick recovery.
"We offer our condolences to Jackson’s loved ones and wish a speedy recovery for the other victim in this act of violence," said the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office in their statement.
