Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting at 600 block of Howard Place, Northwest that injured five people. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) identified the suspect as 17-year-old Kaevaughn Dudley, who is being charged as an adult.
The shooting occurred late last month, around 8:22 p.m., shortly after the Yard Fest event ended. Third District officers responded to reports of gunfire, located five victims, and provided medical assistance until DC Fire and EMS transported them to nearby hospitals. Two individuals were initially detained and charged with Carrying a Pistol without a License, but Metropolitan Police Department later determined they were not responsible for the shooting.
Detectives identified Dudley through extensive review of surveillance footage from private and public cameras, including MetroRail systems with assistance from the Metro Transit Police. The footage showed Dudley allegedly firing a weapon following a brief dispute between two groups.
MPD’s Criminal Apprehension Unit arrested Dudley on Friday last week. He has been charged with Assault with Intent to Kill (Gun) under Title 16. The investigation involved cooperation from multiple agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
The case remains ongoing as Dudley awaits further legal proceedings.
