Racine County prosecutors have formally charged three men in connection with a fatal gang-related shooting at a local chicken restaurant earlier this month, escalating tensions in a community already grappling with a surge of violence. Chihene Davis, Isaiah McGlorn, and Zharon Smith were each charged with first-degree intentional homicide and attempted first-degree intentional homicide as parties to a crime, as reported by FOX6 News.
The incident, which took to place on Nov. 3 at the Chicken Palace on Washington Avenue, resulted in the death of 25-year-old Jaquon Calhoun. In response to this tragedy, the Racine Police Department issued a statement highlighting the retaliatory motive behind the shooting, claiming it was connected to the earlier murder of 26-year-old Cier Tye-Pearson on Nov. 1. The Racine Police Department indicated that both shootings were believed to be gang-related, a detail confirmed by TMJ4.
Further compounding the legal troubles for Davis and McGlorn, they also face charges of possession of a firearm by a felon and multiple counts of felony bail jumping, with both being detained at the Racine County Jail on a $500,000 cash bond each. Smith, who was apprehended on Nov. 14 following the issuance of a warrant, faces additional counts of misdemeanor bail jumping, according to FOX6 News.
Amid ongoing investigations, Racine Police Chief Alexander Ramirez addressed the string of violent incidents, vowing to relentlessly pursue those engaged in gun violence. "If you choose to do harm to our community, we will find you," Ramirez said. "We will arrest you. You will face the full consequences of your actions. However, if you want out of this cycle of violence, there is help and support available to you and your family through the city of Racine Department of Community Safety and our other local partners," a message obtained by WISN reveals.
While arrests have been made in connection with Tye-Pearson's murder, no suspects have yet been taken into custody regarding Calhoun's death. The Racine Police Department is urging anyone with information about either case to contact the Investigations Unit or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
