In a swift turn of municipal events within Tigard, City Manager Brent Stockwell has tendered his resignation, effective immediately as of November 18, 2025. In an announcement accessed through the city's official website, Mayor Yi-Kang Hu confirmed the council's acceptance of Stockwell's resignation and expressed gratitude for his efforts in service to the community.
"Following recent discussions about the City’s leadership direction, Mr. Stockwell informed the Council of his decision to resign," Mayor Hu was quoted as saying on the City of Tigard's website. Underlining a commitment to organizational improvement, the mayor conveyed the council's resolve in "strengthening leadership, culture and accountability" for the city. This leadership shake-up follows the resignation of a former mayor, suggesting a pattern of change within the city’s governance.
As the City of Tigard navigates this transition, Emily Tritsch, currently the Acting City Manager, is set to continue her interim duties to "ensure stability and continuity in city operations." With the City Council responsible for direct supervision of the City Manager, City Attorney, and Municipal Judge, Tritsch's role is critical in maintaining core municipal functions uninterrupted during this period of change.
Mayor Hu emphasized support for city employees and the enduring goal of quality public service, detailing, "Throughout this transition, our focus remains on supporting our employees, maintaining stability and continuing to deliver the high level of service that our community expects and deserves." The search for a long-term replacement hasn't yet been outlined in detail, but the city council is expected to initiate the process soon and will inform the community as plans solidify.
