Tulsa drivers should brace themselves for another day of detours and delays as several ramps and lanes across the city will be facing closures for ongoing construction and safety repairs; the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) has detailed a slate of traffic advisories that are important for commuting plans. According to an ODOT announcement, westbound SH-51, the Broken Arrow Expressway, will have the left lane closed between Memorial Dr. and US-169 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. due to lighting installations.
The eastbound I-244 ramp to southbound US-75 will be closed from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The westbound SH-51 ramp to westbound I-244 will be closed from 11 a.m. to noon. The eastbound SH-51/Broken Arrow Expressway off-ramp to 31st Street will be closed from noon to 2 p.m., and the left lane of eastbound I-244 and the ramp to northbound US-169 will be closed from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. All closures are for scheduled safety device repairs, as per ODOT.
ODOT is conducting multiple projects in Tulsa, including improvements to the I-44/US-75 interchange, which are expected to continue until summer 2028. Detours are in place for various ramp closures, including the southbound ramps to both directions of I-44 and the southbound on-ramp from 41st Street. Additionally, ramps at Skelly Drive and 51st Street are closed.
Construction at the I-44/SH-66 interchange in Catoosa will continue through 2026. Lane and ramp closures include the westbound I-44 off-ramp to northbound SH-66, a limited merge area on the southbound SH-66 ramp to westbound I-44, and the narrowing of 56th Street N. and 66th Street N. along US-75 to one lane for bridge rehabilitation.
Additional ongoing projects reported by ODOT include pavement rehabilitation on SH-97 in Sand Springs, which is set to continue through November 2025, and a bridge replacement on SH-66 at Bird Creek near Catoosa, expected to extend into early 2026; each of these projects ensures the longevity and safety of Tulsa's roadways, at the cost of temporary inconvenience and complexity of travel across this widely interconnected urban landscape, according to ODOT's advisory.
