In a jarring collision at an Anne Arundel County medical building, two individuals were abruptly thrust from the banality of a waiting room into the realm of emergency care. The Maryland Primary Care Physicians office in Glen Burnie became an unintended drive-through yesterday when a red Toyota Rav4 rammed through its facade. Anne Arundel County Police were called to the scene at approximately 3:31 p.m., responding to reports that the vehicle had struck two people, as WMAR-2 News detailed in their coverage.
Initially, there was confusion about the identities of the injured parties. It was first thought that the casualties were the driver and the passenger. Captain Sheldon Neal, however, later clarified that the injured were, in fact, seated in the waiting room at the time of the incident. The victims, a couple in their 70s, were taken to Shock Trauma with serious injuries that were described as potentially life-threatening, according to information provided by the Anne Arundel County Fire Department and recounted by WBAL-TV. One person was pinned against a wall, and another was found beneath the car following the crash.
The driver of the car was reportedly navigating the parking lot at Quarterfield Place before the vehicle accelerated unexpectedly and crashed into the parking spot's adjacent building. The reason for the acceleration remains unclear, and the incident is still under investigation.
