Denver commuters, brace yourselves for a significant disruption next week. Denver's Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) has warned the public about an upcoming full closure of Santa Fe Drive at Cedar Avenue. The closure is set to begin on Monday, November 10, at 4 a.m. and will last until Friday, November 14, at 5 p.m., in a move initiated for public safety reasons by the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway (BNSF), according to DOTI.
According to DOTI, the BNSF has found it necessary to replace railroad tracks, a job necessitating the shutdown of the roadway just north of Alameda Avenue. Drivers looking to navigate northbound Santa Fe will still be able to turn east or west onto Alameda Avenue during the closure period. However, they may want to rethink their routes as predicted congestion and delays could affect travel times significantly.
The officially recommended detour diverts traffic west on Alameda Avenue to Federal Boulevard. For those hoping to stick close to the affected area, local traffic will be allowed on Santa Fe, north of Alameda Avenue, until reaching the full stop at Cedar Avenue. At this juncture, travelers will only be able to continue north onto Interstate 25 or reverse course heading south on Kalamath Drive.
