The Upper Arlington Police Division is stepping up its community engagement efforts this holiday season, organizing a food drive that aims to bolster local pantry shelves and assist families facing hardship. On December 6, a “Pack a Police Cruiser” event, set to run from 10 am to 2 pm at Fire Station 72 on 3861 Reed Road, will endeavor to collect essential supplies for the Heart to Heart Food Pantry. The planned drive seeks to ensure a more joyful holiday season for those in the Columbus area who may be struggling.
Residents of Upper Arlington and neighboring communities are encouraged to bring their donations directly to the collection site, where officers will be on hand to help immediately pack a cruiser with received goods. The list of requested items spans from basic foodstuffs – such as soups, snacks, and canned goods – to personal care necessities, including diapers and feminine hygiene products. In a statement obtained by the City of Upper Arlington’s announcement, organizers emphasize that contributions of any size can truly make a difference in alleviating local food insecurity.
This initiative reflects a commitment by the Upper Arlington Police Division to not only maintain but to actively reinforce the bonds between law enforcement and the community they serve. Aligning with the Heart to Heart Food Pantry, the department hopes to address a critical need, as pantries in the region have experienced increased demand during the holiday season when many are faced with economic challenges that become all the more acute.
The police division’s choice to host the event at a local fire station underscores a greater collaboration among different public service entities, coming together to support a common goal. Items considered most in-demand are canned meats like chicken and tuna, as well as other canned produce, but the Heart to Heart Food Pantry has indicated an equally urgent need for baby essentials and toiletries. "Every donation—big or small—makes a meaningful difference," the City of Upper Arlington noted, conveying an appreciative tone for the anticipated community turnout.
For those willing to participate but unable to attend, alternative donation arrangements can be made. The Upper Arlington Police Division and Heart to Heart Food Pantry are extending opportunities to contribute beyond the single event, as the spirit of giving and communal support carries on throughout the holiday season – an annual reminder of the enduring importance of generosity and assistance towards our neighbors in need.
