Drivers and pedestrians in Duluth should prepare for some minor detours on November 19, 2025, as the city has announced a closure of a portion of the 300 block of E. Fourth Street. This shutdown is to facilitate utility work, deemed necessary, and is expected to span the entirety of the day.
The detour will reroute eastbound traffic from EFourth Street to Third Avenue E, then to ESecond Street, Fourth Avenue E, and back to EFourth Street, according to a city statement; westbound travelers, on the other hand, will be directed to Fourth Avenue E, then to EThird Street, onto Third Avenue E and finally rejoining EFourth Street creating a loop that ensures traffic flows albeit through a temporary twist and turn.
While the street is closed, pedestrians won't be left without access. However, the south side sidewalk of the 300 block will be shut down, directing foot traffic exclusively to the north side sidewalk within this specific block. This adjustment is designed to ensure the safety of the public while crews work diligently on the necessary utility improvements beneath the urban skin of Duluth's roadways.
Residents and commuters using these affected routes should plan for potential delays, and those dwelling in the vicinity or local businesses might want to prepare for the sounds and sights that accompany such urban toil; the city assures that the inconvenience will be limited to just the single day, and that normal traffic patterns should resume promptly upon completion of the work.
