In a collaborative law enforcement effort, Marquese Alvin Roberts, a Vallejo resident, faces federal indictment for firearms possession, following a meticulous intervention by the Vallejo Police Department, coupled with a myriad of local, state, and federal partners. The incident, which triggered a swift operation on May 3, stemmed from reports of gunfire leading officers to the 1600 block of Fairgrounds Drive, and was documented in a statement by the Vallejo Police Department on their official social media channel.
The search operation, bolstered by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Air Unit and multiple allied agencies, honed in on the gunfire source. The CHP Air Unit's vigilance led to the sighting of Roberts, age 36, as he concealed a firearm in the bushes. Guided by the aircrew, ground officers detained Roberts and recovered the said firearm. Further investigation revealed that Roberts was under federal supervision due to a 2018 conviction involving firearm possession and drug trafficking.
Roberts, whose previous convictions now weigh upon his current charges, was subsequently indicted by a federal grand jury for being a felon in possession of a firearm. After his arrest on May 7 for violating his supervised release, he has remained in federal custody, per the details from the Vallejo Police. Vallejo Police Chief Jason Ta highlighted the effectiveness of the collaborative operation, stating, per the Vallejo Police Department, "This case shows the power of a coordinated strategy between our officers, federal task forces, and PSP partners."
In the aftermath of this apprehension, the case is now in the hands of a joint task force, consisting of the Vallejo Police Department, American Canyon Police Department, CHP Air Unit, FBI Solano County Violent Crimes Task Force, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Solano County District Attorney's Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Adrian T. Kinsella spearheads the prosecution of charges from the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of California. According to the police statement, the implications for Roberts if convicted are severe, including up to 15 years of imprisonment and fines of up to $250,000.
