Over in Waikoloa, the local school just wrapped up its Red Ribbon Week, with this year's theme being “Life is a Puzzle — Solve It Drug Free.” This annual event, which ran from October 23-31, united students, their families, and the school staff in a series of activities designed to promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

The school grounds were decked out in banners and posters with the help of School Resource Officer Kui Dela Cruz, who also took the lead in educating the kids about the hazards drugs pose to their health and well-being. According to a report on the Hawaii Police Department's website, SRO Dela Cruz visited classrooms, leading discussions and activities focused on the significance of the Red Ribbon campaign.

In a display of community spirit, students from kindergarten through eighth grade took to the streets wielding banners bearing drug-free slogans, engaging passersby and motorists with their message. The Red Ribbon Week poster contest further encouraged students to express their commitment to a drug-free existence, while the Waikoloa PTSA sweetened the deal with popsicles for those students who pledged to stay clean.

Symbolizing unity and commitment, one of the standout visuals was a sea of red as students, teachers, and staff donned the campaign's signature color. The police department expressed their gratitude towards the Hawai‘i County Prosecutor’s Office and the Waikoloa PTSA for their unwavering support, and partnership in this initiative.
