
In a recent operation by the DeSoto Police Department, Maverick James Stephens, a 29-year-old Waxahachie resident, was arrested on suspicion of multiple vehicle burglaries. The events unfolded last Wednesday, when officers responded to a burglary call around 11:10 p.m. in a local business's parking lot on the North IH-35E Service Road. According to the DeSoto Police Department, the caller described the suspect as a white male with facial tattoos who fled the location, leaving an idling gray Nissan Altima behind.
The DeSoto officers discovered a ski mask and a crowbar in plain view inside the vehicle. Spotted near the IH-35E overpass was Stephens, whose swift apprehension was facilitated by the vigilant officers. Following an investigation that included surveillance footage, Stephens was linked to a total of four vehicle burglaries in the parking lot. Recovered from the suspect was property reported stolen from the burglarized vehicles. Maverick is facing charges with four counts of Burglary of a Motor Vehicle, which is a Class-A Misdemeanor.
DeSoto Police Chief Costa praised the Delta Shift team for their effective and timely response, which ensured the suspect's arrest without escalating the situation. The Chief was quoted in the DeSoto Police Department's social media post, saying, "Excellent job by the citizen caller who remained calm, answered the dispatchers' questions, and provided valuable information prior to police arriving." The community's role in maintaining safety and order by reporting suspicious activities was also highlighted.
