The West Allis Police Department is turning to the public for assistance, urging anyone with knowledge of a decades-old homicide to step forward. The cold case in question is the Halloween 1995 death of Terrie L. Engel, who was found in her West Allis apartment following a fire.
On the evening of October 31, 1995, the West Allis Fire Department responded to smoke emanating from Engel's second-story unit at Windsong Village Apartments. Upon entry, firefighters discovered her deceased body marked by wounds to the neck, and evidence indicated a subsequent effort to ignite the premises post-mortem, TMJ4 reported.
Three decades have now passed, and officials have not ceased in their pursuit of justice. "The members of the West Allis Police Department have not forgotten about Terrie Engel and are committed to seeking justice for Terrie and her family," Chief Patrick Mitchell stated, as noted by WISN. With this renewed appeal, authorities suggest that observant community members may recall, or unwittingly possess, critical information tied to behavioral anomalies displayed by potential suspects following the crime.
The police have outlined specific indicators of potential involvement, ranging from erratic mood changes, unexplained absences, to abrupt relocations, and a propensity towards, or aversion from, media coverage of the case. Appeals are not only addressed to those who might hold direct knowledge but also to observers of subtle shifts in behavior that may betray a hidden guilt. "You are in a unique position to have observed behavioral changes in that individual before and/or after the time of the incident," West Allis police pointed out, according to FOX6 News.
West Allis Police implores anyone with information, no matter how minor it may seem, to come forward. Detective Jon Cerqua can be contacted directly with tips, while options to submit information anonymously through CRIME STOPPERS or the P3 Tips App are also available for those who may wish to help without public involvement.
